Artist Jackie Charley was just trying to sell some Christmas cards featuring wintry critters, when Facebook took down her post. Their reasoning made her laugh.

If there's been some bees with that bird it would be more understandable. But the birds and the squirrels and the stags? When has that ever meant sex to anyone? Actually don't answer that...

People commenting on the post had a few theories as to why Facebook deemed these images simply too racy.

People on Twitter also had some thoughts on the matter.

Mashable reached out to Facebook for comment, but at time of writing has received no reply.

Never fear, even if Facebook doesn't approve you can still buy the frankly scandalous Christmas cards on the artist's Etsy page.

If however you have a shred of shame you will put the images out of your mind. Down with this sort of thing!

UPDATE: Nov. 13, 2017, 11:46 a.m. GMT A Facebook spokesperson responded with the following statement: "Our team processes millions of images each week, and occasionally we incorrectly prohibit content, as happened here. We approved Jackie’s post as soon as we became aware of our mistake, and are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
